ABC2 is coming up with some musical goodies on Friday nights lately.
UK music show The South Bank Show follows Coldplay for six months for this music doco, hosted by Melvyn Bragg.
Viva Coldplay is an intimate behind-the-scenes portrait of one of the biggest selling bands in the world, the British multi award-winning quartet, Coldplay.
Now, more than ten years into their career, the program accompanies the global stars for six months, taking in their wins at the Grammys in Los Angeles, touring Japan, the Brit Awards and the Warchild concert in London; and spending time with them whilst they work on their next album in their north London studios, with Brian Eno.
Presenter Melvyn Bragg talks in depth to each of the four band members: Chris Martin (vocalist), Johnny Buckland (lead guitarist), Guy Berryman (bassist) and Will Chapman (drummer) – who discuss their plans for the future.
Viva Coldplay spans their career and meteoric rise, from their early days as students – even taking the film crew back to their student flat in Camden, and to the first venue they ever performed in, the Dublin Castle in Camden.
With live performances recorded at their Tokyo concert including their classics: Yellow, Violet Hill and Viva La Vida. Contributors include: DJ Steve Lamacq and U2’s Bono.
It airs at 8:30pm Friday 6th August on ABC2.BAnk
